Waiting at the Well
In John 4 Christ is waiting at the well for a woman he is destined to save. During their discussion he Christ says 6 “Go, call your husband and come back.” 17 “I have no husband,” she replied. Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband.18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”
Many preachers state that Jesus is referring to a man the woman was living with, and perhaps this is true, but what if he were referring to himself?
If so in this statement he offers her the key to satisfaction, rest, and redemption. She needs Christ to become her spiritual husband as we need to become his bride. Perhaps we've missed a deeper meaning to the story.
